Villa Mairea - Part A

Project One - Villa Mairea

Selection of Parts

My point of interest is the studio part of the structure. As we can see from the plans and the photos, the studio could be isolated as a single structure, and it also shows the link to the house by the use of the circular columns and the organic shape. The studio could be seperated into two parts, the upper part and the lower part, while the upper part is an enclosed timber structure, the lower part uses concrete walls, timber frames and glass windows to suggest a much open and public area. The whole structure reacts with the surrounding environment by applying timber not only to the floor and wall surface, but also to the detail such as columns and frames, which gives a feeling of surrounding by the nature and suggests a sense of humanisation.
